Informative though it is, I believe this entry's earlier definition (latterly retitled as
Sliding Floor Chamber) to be a misinterpretation.
Rather than being the name of a puzzle, I think it more plausible that the term Mendacity Engine refers to a malevolent power generator, used by
Lord Fear to energise the
Firebomb Room (if not other obstacles too). Here is the relevant quotation from the
Lord Fear's Diary section of
The Quest (Vol. 3, No. 1):
'Then there's the Firebomb chamber ... Note: must get Lissard to turn up the Mendacity Engine and get some more speed out of these blocks and fireballs.'
Mendacity means lying and deceit, and is the opposite of veracity (as in the
Pool of Veracity).
So is the Mendacity Engine a needlessly elaborate name for a single puzzle, or an appropriately colourful term for the Opposition's power generator? You decide.
